Before we give you the Club History etc the next
few lines basically describe what we as a club really are All about.
We enjoy meeting new people and training them how
to dive safely,
We enjoy having fun, having a laugh, having a
beer or two, having fish n chips when the weather is too bad to dive, and
Mostly ............... we all enjoy
diving!
That's it .....simple.
So if you like the sound of us and our club,
please feel free to come along and join in.
Right then .......onward to the All About Us.
The Border Sub-Aqua Club was founded way back in
1974 by a small group of like minded people who were interested in learning to
Dive. We were the first Diving club to be established in the Scottish
Borders and in 2004 we celebrated our 30th Anniversary, where members from past and present came together
for dinner and drinks and many stories were exchanged about how diving
used to be and what its like now.
There are around 30 members of the club who come
from all walks of life - we have joiners, electricians, a vet, a
postman, a Royal Navy Bomb disposal diver, nurses, engineers, office workers, to
mention just a few. We tend to do most of our diving and training in and
around St Abbs which is a marine reserve area and classed as one of the best
dive sites in the UK. Over the years members of the club have dived most of the
Scottish Coast Line from the Battle Ships in Scapa Flow to the Summer Isles, St
Kilda, Skye, The Outer Hebrides, The Sound of Mull, The Moray Firth, The Firth Of Forth, The Forth
Of Fifth !?, The Farne Isles and just about every nook and cranny in and around
St Abbs and Eyemouth again to name but a few. As for the rest of the
World.......? Below are just some of the places club members have dived:
The Azores, Red Sea, Cuba, Maldives, Mexico, Dominican
Republic, Cyprus, Corfu, Barbados, Kenya, Zante, California, Hawaii, Aruba,
Curacao, Turkey, Mauritius, Norway, Japan, Torquay, Fiji, The great lakes in
Germany and probably a good few more.
So as a club you can see we have heaps of diving
experience in different locations and conditions so you should never be stuck
for advice on where to dive and where not to dive.
As one club member famously said on Border
Television when asked about advice on where to dive "ask a Local Fisherman" well
you don't have to bother with that just " ask a Border Sub-Aqua Club Member".
