TO BE A DIVER
POOL TRAINING WITH LOVELY DAVE LECTURES IN THE CLASS ROOM
Before any diver can progress to the deep blue sea they must first undertake a certain amount of training to enable them to have gained sufficient experience and knowledge to dive safely. The best and safest way for us to conduct this training is in a nice warm swimming pool. Pool training sessions are held in Hawick at the Teviotdale Leisure Centre, starting in October through to April, on a Wednesday night between 7pm - 9pm. Diving theory lectures are organised first at 7pm followed by in water pool training from 8pm - 9pm.
All training is Governed by the Scottish Sub Aqua Club ( ScotSAC ).
During your pool training these are just a few of the skills you will learn.
Did you know that SCUBA stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus?
After you have completed your Pool training, its then onto the DEEP BLUE SEA where all them fishes swim.
Most of our club members dive all year round in all weathers - even when its snowing a certain few members still choose to go for a dip !! , but open water training sessions usually start around April (weather and light permitting) at St. Abbs.

Open Water training is basically going over all the skills you have learned in the pool and putting them into practice in the sea. Below are some extra skills you will learn during your open water training.
Once you have successfully completed your open water training and you have gained the Sports Diver qualification the world is your octopus and the deep blue sea can be yours! BUT....... you don't have to stop learning there. There are various courses organised by ScotSAC, to help further your skills and fuel your enthusiasm for diving, such as master diver, first class diver, underwater archaeology, deep diving, wreck diving, drift diving, underwater photography, boat handling, oxygen administration and nitrox - to name just a few.
You can also carry on to become a Branch Diving Instructor and help the club train new divers who want to learn to dive and experience the wonders of the sea.
